In October 2016, we celebrated the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. This event changed the history of the British Isles and its effects can even be seen on today’s culture, eg in the form of numerous French cultural exports in the English language and in English dishes and customs. The heroic actions of William the Conqueror were commemorated in numerous chronicles and on the famous Bayeux fabric. The latter is a unique monument of Romanesque art, and a tremendous historical source for all medieval scholars. The 70 m wide canvas about the conquest of England in 1066 shows battles, soldiers, armaments, feasts, mighty men and their clothing, service and duties, buildings, ships and animals and plants. Thanks to our participation in the celebrations, we have collected a lot of material that will serve us as a means to prepare for the 2017 inter-school knowledge competition on the achievements of William the Conqueror.
